Latest publication from the pre-implementation study!

Check out the latest project results published in the Journal of Cancer Survivorship in our article on the 'Barriers and facilitators to implementation of the interoperable Survivorship Passport (SurPass) v2.0 in 6 European countries: a PanCareSurPass online survey study'! Why is this paper important? Survivorship care after childhood cancer is important to prevent and treat health problems that can occur later in life (late effects). The Survivorship Passport is a document which provides a survivor of childhood cancer with a treatment summary and personalised care plan. This plan describes the clinical tests needed in the upcoming years, based on the latest guidelines for late effects screening. So far, preparation of the Survivorship Passport was done manually by the late effects doctor, which is a very time consuming task (on average 1.5 hours per survivor). The newest version of the Survivorship Passport is therefore digitalised - parts of the document can be prepared automatically by a computer system. As part of the European PanCareSurPass project, six childhood cancer hospitals in Italy, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Lithuania and Spain will start using this new version of the Survivorship Passport. International Childhood Cancer Day 2023

International Childhood Cancer Day is a global collaborative campaign to raise awareness about childhood and adolescent cancer, including survivorship, held every year on 15th February. This year, Teresa Tormo and Marisa Correcher from HULAFE presented the PanCareSurPass project to their regional government in Valencia as part of the awareness day.

SurPass Presented to Survivors and Clinicians in Spain

The team at HULAFE has been busy, presenting the SurPass to survivors and general clinicians at face-to-face and hybrid meetings at Hospital La Fe, Valencia, Spain. The aim of the meetings was to highlight the importance of long-term follow-up care, and how the SurPass can support better care. HULAFE will implement the SurPass in the PanCareSurPass Multi-Country Implementation Study, launching in 2023. On 22 October 2022, Dr. Julia Balaguer presented 'PanCareSurPass - Implementación digital del Pasaporte del Superviviente de cáncer infantil' to survivors and general clinicians. Then, on 13 December 2022, she delivered a hybrid course on long-term follow-up in childhood cancer survivors for general clinicians and other health professionals.

In this interview, we meet project manager Jeroen te Dorsthorst from PanCare. Why did you join PanCareSurPass? As a project manager at PanCare I am involved in the various projects PanCare is involved in. Within PanCareSurPass I focus on communication and dissemination of the project and how we can inform every healthcare professional and survivor in Europe about the importance of the Survivorship Passport. Explain your organization and your role in PanCareSurPass. PanCare is a multidisciplinary pan-European network of healthcare professionals, researchers,  survivors and their families.  Our mission is to ensure that every European childhood cancer survivor has equal access to optimal long-term follow-up care.  We hope to reach this mission by: - Empowerment of childhood cancer survivors - Conducting research on late effects and long-term follow-up care - Development and support of implementation of guidelines - Maintain a network of healthcare professionals, researchers and survivors and their families - Develop methods to achieve equal access to long-term follow-up care - Optimal collaboration between European partners - Spread knowledge and awareness about childhood cancer survival.
